VETERAN’S AFFAIRS COMMISSION

OCTOBER 5, 2009



  • Call to Order – Chair Bernie Corona called the regular meeting of the Veteran’s Affairs Commission to order at 7:04 pm on November 2, 2008 in Town Council Chambers.

B.      Roll Call - PRESENT: Bernie Corona, Dominic Fulco, Sr., Kirk Allison, Arden Passaro, J. Roger Pelletier, Paul Barry, Mary-Ann Roczynski, Linda Carrasquillo.

EXCUSED:        Stan deMello            

  • Approval of Minutes – Bernie asked the Commission to go over the minutes of the last two meetings. Paul made a motion to accept the minutes of September 14, 2009, seconded by Dominic.  Dominic Fulco made a motion to accept the minutes of October 5, 2009, seconded by Kirk Allison.  It was unanimously voted to approve both the minutes of the September 14, 2009 meeting and the October 5, 2009 meetings.

  • Old Business  
  • Veterans Parade this weekend will be a tribute to the Vietnam Veterans.  Paul requested the Commission’s help to get members of the American Legion, DAV and VFW to march with flags.  Kirk volunteered to help carry a flag.

  • New Business  
  • Open Discussions
  • Housing Assistance – available from PSCS out of the State for active duty members
  • Dom invited Commission members to the lighting of the Town Christmas tree on the Town Green on December 4, 2009 to see Santa.
Mary Ann received a letter from the Dept. of Defense about a cash incentive available for veterans who served past their term.  The incentive is available until October 20, 2010.  Once she receives more information about the incentive program, she will put an article in the newspaper.

  • Items of Interest
Bernie passed out to Commission members handouts on discounts that are offered for Veterans on Veterans Day, and articles on budget and benefit changes for veterans.


  • Payment of Bills – Linda Carrasquillo made a motion to pay the clerk, seconded by Dominic.  Motion carried.
  • Adjournment – Mary Ann made a motion to adjourn the meeting and it was seconded by Paul Barry.  Bernie adjourned the meeting at 7:40 p.m.
